Closing out November, I visited the Colonel Thomas Robeson Chapter in Lumberton at Adelio’s Restaurant for a Women’s Suffrage Celebration. The tables were decorated with hats with hatbands and we were all given signs to carry that read, “Votes for Women.” Members were dressed in white and were given purple ribbons to pin on their blouses. To get into the spirit of the program, we even marched around the room holding the signs and chanting, “Votes for Women!” Chapter Regent Barbara Cruce invited Lumberton native Barbara Irvine to speak about her involvement with the Alice Paul museum and about the incredible life of Alice Paul.
On November 24th I joined the Greenlee Chapter, Sherie Presnell Regent, for the Marion Christmas Parade followed by a tour of the Carson House by Martha Jordan. Beth Silver and Karen Barton carried the chapter banner and I walked behind it waving to the friendly crowd. It really put everyone in the Christmas spirit. At the Carson House, we were treated to refreshments, an informative talk by Mr. Carson, and a house tour. It is amazing the connections this family had with other families who were instrumental in forming that area of our state. The Greenlee sisters and the Greenlee Chapter were instrumental in saving this beautiful home and keeping it for generations to enjoy. Truly they are tying the past to the present and giving an amazing gift to the future. Thank you, Ladies.
