On a recent Saturday, September 7th, Vice President General Elizabeth Graham, State Recording Secretary Mary Tatum, Organizing Secretary Anne Hobbs, Treasurer Rosie Craig, Registrar Donna Rhyne, Historian Libby McAteer, Librarian Nancy Wark, and I were honored to join District II Director Robin Meyer in Lenoir, where we inducted 34 new members, welcomed 11 reinstatements and transfers, and installed officers for our newest chapter Tucker’s Barn. There were multiple sister groups and mother daughter groups, confirming again DAR is a family affair. Genealogists who had helped with applications and many nearby chapter members were also present to witness this joyous event and support these new members.
Several Tucker’s Barn members attended Fall Forum to receive training beyond that provided by Anne Hobbs; they are excited about their membership and anxious to start working on DAR projects. They have a chapter wreath already and worked together to provide refreshments and decorations for the many attendees. Hickory Tavern Chapter graciously agreed to help them with introductions and assistance in transferring DAR sponsorship for the National Defense JROTC medals at the Caldwell County High School. I was very pleased to hear multiple offers of help from our established members. Our newest members were most appreciative. Witnessing these offers of mentoring was rewarding for me, and I also appreciate your offers. Our newest chapter members are fortunate to have a good foundation on which to build and the excellent leadership of their regent, Cindy Day. We wish them all the best for many years of wonderful DAR memories.
